Have you ever taught someone to sew?
With Home Economics taken out of most schools, we have a few generations now who did not have the opportunity to learn to sew, whether it's fixing a loose button or how to make a quilt. How are you passing on your skills to a younger generation? Linda Thielfoldt of "The Quilted Goose" blog has a heartwarming story of sharing her skills. Even as the world of quilting is going through change (and we all know how difficult change can be!), there will still be opportunities to pass on our knowledge and skills. Tell us in a comment below how you have shared your skills with someone, or you plan to in the future. Or maybe you have some ideas on how the EIHQ Guild can mentor young people. We look forward to your input and comments! What is happening in today's world of quilting?!
If you follow The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, you've probably seen the link to Generation Q's Notions article titled "What the Heck is Happening in Our Q-niverse?" In case you haven't read it, simply click on the link above to go directly to the article. What do you think? We look forward to your comments! We're still tallying up the Quilt Show Questionnaires from Monday's guild meeting, but it's been fascinating to read the answers to: "What are some things you liked best about the 2016 Quilt Show?" "The quilts," "All the lovely quilts," "The beautiful quilts," "The local talent is amazing!", "I enjoyed seeing the local quilts and the national and international quilts," "I like looking at all the wonderful workmanship," "The variety of quilts...." I'm sure you get the picture!
In addition, there were positive comments about Sharing Our Skills (SOS), Quilts of Valor (QOV), the Silent Auction, and the Boutique. Even the escalators and bathrooms got a positive mention! Interestingly, mentioned over and over, were positive comments like "meeting other guild members," "making new friends," "meeting people from all over," and "I learned so much helping out" in various ways. Whatever the future holds for the EIHQ Quilt Show, we have an enormous number of gifted people willing to share their time and talents to put on a great show. That's not just the beautiful quilts! That includes all the behind-the-scenes and not-so-behind-the-scenes stuff that make our show so fabulous. Thank you to the 174 members who completed the questionnaire! You're awesome! Well, we've had a great week...and if you haven't been to the Quilt Show, remember Saturday is the last day! You don't want to miss all the wonderful quilts, from our talented guild members and those entered in the MQS show.
Below are a few quilts from the show, but the pictures don't do them justice--you'll want to see them in person to get the full effect. |
